Winter 2006

Drawings by Peter Kuper

My wife, daughter, and I moved to Oaxaca for a sabbatical year, to learn Spanish and experience a different culture. We didn't come for the exploding political situation, but we found one and it has been very instructive.

Seeing the striking teachers remaining steadfast in their resolve and standing up to incredible odds has been an inspiration.

The story is far from over. Even as the federal and state governments try to erase this event, it won't be forgotten.

We plan to stay in Oaxaca for another year.
